Thank you Barcombe!

| July 23, 2010

Thank you so much for the kind words in your cards and gifts, and for the wonderful leaving gift of a sax, which I’m really thrilled with.  I hope to show you how my learning is coming on, either through a blog or hopefully a visit next year.

I want to thank all the parents who have given their time to help with the many projects that we have been part of recently, especially those who have helped to transport other people’s children to the many events – leavers’ service, PGL, Safety in Action and PATINA.

Thanks also to Mrs Wise, Ms Sangorski and Mr Richards, who have made such a difference in class this year.

To the children, I’d like to wish you all much happiness in your next schools and class.  It’s been great to have worked with you this year and I hope that you feel proud of your efforts and achievements.  I know that you’ll do well if you really want to.

Good luck and be happy.

PATINA – wasn’t it great!

| July 12, 2010

What a great time we had on Friday.  I hope that you’ll enjoy the memories of the parade and party afterwards.

There are quite a lot of photos that you can see in the gallery.  You’ll need to log in using the usual login to see them though – they’re private, just for our school.

PATINA – free swim at Pells Pool

| July 6, 2010

Just to let you know, you can go for a free swim at Pells Pool after the parade – you’ll need a handstamp from the PATINA organisers.

There will be a letter for Y6 on Wednesday about this.  I’ll need to know if you’re coming back to Barcombe, or if you’re going to the pool, and who you’re going with.

Hope you’re enjoying Chailey taster day!

PS – remember it’s sports day tomorrow!

Food Chains

| June 11, 2010
We’re going to be finding out about food chains in science next week.  Have a look at this activity to get some ideas.

This page at Woodland Junior School is well worth a look too.

Can you think of any food chains near to your house?

Have a good weekend.

Home Learning – June 9th

PART ONE – Take some interesting photos in and around Barcombe.

As just about all of you have access to a digital camera, I’d like to have a photo competition, where the best 20 or30 photos get put into a photo book similar to the one we looked at in class.  Try taking close-ups, and photos from interesting angles.  As you walk around the village, look for interesting sights, shapes and textures.  Mr Cobb has a collection of photos that his class took that might give you some ideas – click here and maybe select the slideshow option.

Ask before you use cameras or email or bring photos in.

You can bring them in on a memory stick, or email them to me justinheath :at: barcombe :dot: e-sussex :dot: sch :dot: uk

We’ll have a gallery and a choosing session in class, and I’ll try to show you how we can edit photos to make them look even cooler using photoshop.

PART TWO – Find some interesting stories or facts about the village

How many really interesting facts or stories can you find about Barcombe?  Ask around and record the things that interest you most.

Good luck!

Safety in Action visit…

| May 28, 2010
It was great to take part in Safety in Action at Newhaven Fort on Thursday.  What did you find most interesting or surprising about it?

I thought some of you looked like you were having an interesting time with the “beer goggles” on…

Have a super break, and I’ll see you on June 8th.

Fast shoelaces

| May 20, 2010
Ian's Shoelace Knots This is an unusual post; however quite a number of you have asked about the fast shoelace knot which you may have seen me using.

Click the shoelace picture to visit the site of the man who invented it:

It takes a bit of practice, but it could be a good test of your determination!

Big Ideas with the Rector…

| May 17, 2010
We’re lucky to be having James the rector with us again on Wednesday afternoon this week.

What would you like to ask?  Can you surprise James by asking an incredibly interesting question?

Put your questions in the comments…
