Home Learning – October 24th

| October 24, 2008

I was hugely impressed by the story-writing that you’ve done this week.  You’ve really understood the work that we’ve covered this term.  Well done!

Over the break, I’d like you to make an information leaflet about a famous person that you are interested in.  Include plenty of facts about them.  You’ll be writing a biography about them in literacy over the coming weeks.  Try to include details of where they grew up, when they were born and what their important achievements are or were.

Who will you choose?

Have a super break!

Hyperactive Sentences!

| October 24, 2008

We’ve been thinking of sentences with three actions in them.  The sentences are a list of three actions.  They help to move our stories along, give them pace, and interest the reader.

What sentences of three could go with a picture like this?  Let me know in the comments.

Home Learning – October 10th

| October 10, 2008

WELL DONE! this week, I was particularly impressed with your thoughtfulness and honesty in circle time, and in the efforts you made after the circle time.  Keep it up and you’ll have a year to remember, I’m sure.

POETRY RECITALS: I’d like you to continue learning the poems that we looked at and printed earlier in the week.  Remember that you can watch some good performances of the poems on the bbc website.

We watched “Dockers MC”, who was named by The Times newspaper as one of their Top Ten Literary Stars of 2008.

She perfomed “The Pig”, by Roald Dahl, and showed a huge range of speaking speed, and expressions. Click the picture to be taken to a page where you can watch some more recitals, and maybe feel inspired.

CLASS ASSEMBLY: of course, there will also be our class assembly to learn, now that we’ve agreed that we like the script.  You’ll get the script with your parts named and ready to learn on Monday.

SCHOOL TRIP: don’t forget, you can have a look at the TATE MODERN and TATE KIDS websites to see some great art, and perphaps GET CURIOUS about something before we go on our trip next week.

Have a great weekend!

Home Learning – October 3rd

| October 6, 2008

Well done for the great work you did at the Harvest Festival on Wednesday.  Several people complimented you on your performance and on the things that you were talking about.

The BBC are running a competition to learn a famous poem and perform it well, and with expression from memory.  So, this week’s home learning is  to choose a poem and learn it off by heart.
