7x table challenge

| May 21, 2009
How well do you know your 7s?

There’s a pause of about 3 seconds between the question and the answer.

Can you answer each question faster than Ieuan?

When you can do it from memory, you’ll know the table – simple eh?

Put your initials in the comments when you can do it!

You’ve asked for a link to download the xMind software.

It’s free and you can download the version for your computer from this link.

Make sure that an adult knows you want to install this.  Remember, it’s not OK to just install stuff on people’s PCs without them knowing.

Let me know how you use the software.

James gets started with semicolons…

| May 7, 2009

Get the Flash Player to see this content.

So, you think of a sentence like this:

Because he loved custard so much, he packed three tins of it to take on holiday.

Then, swap the comma for a semicolon and remove the because.

He loved custard so much; he packed three tins of it to take on holiday.

Each side of the semicolon needs to make sense if it were a sentenceby itself.  Both sides of the semicolon need to be closely linked in meaning.

Nice going!  Remember to rehearse each sentence, check it makes sense, and say the punctuation before you write it down.

Putting the final pieces in place

| May 1, 2009
You’ve worked really hard to learn a lot and be ready for your SATS and the move to your secondary schools. What can you do at this late stage to feel even more confident?

  • Try the writing website in the links on the right.  It tells you about all the different genres with some really good examples.
  • Have a go on revisewise.
  • Read the CGP books that you’ve all got.
  • Practise making some wacky and fun comma sentences and sentences of three.

DO take time to relax though.  People do their best when they’re a little bit stresse – not completely chilled out or too stressed to think properly.
