Snow Day – Part 1

| January 13, 2010

Well, it’s snowy again and school has been closed again.  There’s a few things that should keep you going in ths and the next post. Have a good day, do some learning and I’ll see you tomorrow I hope!

wallwisher – Tudor Q&A I’ll check and approve entries after lunch and again this evening.

SCIENCE EXPERIMENT FROM RADSTOCK SCHOOL

Which melts more quickly, a large snowball or two small snowballs?

You need

  • Scales
  • A bowl or waterproof container.
  • To check with your parents what you are going to do.

What you are going to do

  1. Make one large and two small snowballs roughly the same size.
  2. Use the scales to make sure that the large snowball is the same weight as both of the small snowballs.
  3. Bring all three snowballs inside and put them in a bowl to catch the water when they melt.
  4. Make sure they are not touching.

Now it is a race. Which is going to melt first? Is it going to be the large snowball or both of the small snowballs?

Predict (guess) the result and think of a reason why.

Put your answer in the comments section of this post or make a google doc and share it.

Snow Day – Part 2

Measure how deep the snow is in your garden or near your house. Put the answer in the comments, say how deep the snow is in cm and in metres and which village or area you are in.

Make sure that you’ve learned your spellings for the test on Friday.

Take some photos of the snow around your house and add the photo to a Google Doc.  Share it with the rest of the class, so we can have a sort of gallery of amazing igloos and snowmen.

Have a go on fast maths or the maths minute links on previous posts, or there’s always tutpup to have a go on too.

This is fun too: snowflake maker Just click to say that you’re sure you have flash 6 or higher and you should be fine.
